Like any entrepreneur, cash is king and I am looking for funding from various sources. One popular source for many is the venture capital community. Recently, I made it past the first round and was invited to present Tikatok to three partners at a local firm. It was a cold day and I was running late. The receptionist rushed me into the meeting where three partners were waiting. Quickly realizing the sentiment in the room, I didn’t take off my coat and sat down to start the presentation. I didn’t make it past the first slide when suddenly I realized my pants were wet. Now, I do get excited sometimes but never like this. I stopped the presentation, stood up and put my hand in my coat pocket. Something felt familiar, but with three serious sets of eyes on my now wet pants, I just couldn’t put it all together. Then I pulled a sopping wet rubber duck out of my pocket! Needless to say, my meeting was over.

On the way home I was furious at my daughter for putting her duck in my coat and ruining my meeting. But when I opened the door, she jumped on me and gave me a big hug asking, “mommy, did you have a good meeting?” I looked at her and all I could say was, “I had a great meeting, now let’s play!”

Thinking back, I am not sure that the meeting could have been successful in any case. Let’s just say it wasn’t a cultural fit. I tell you one thing for sure, when I close my next round of funding, I am planning to send this venture capital firm a duck. I still haven’t decided if I should fill it with water. Any thoughts?
